Field Trip to Đa Sỹ: Students from Dwight Hanoi Explore the Art of Vietnamese Knife Making

Today, our workshop in Đa Sỹ welcomed a lively group of international students from Dwight School Hanoi for a special field trip led by their teacher, Mr. Paul Curran. This visit was part of their experiential learning program, giving the students a chance to immerse themselves in the traditional craft of Vietnamese blacksmithing.

During the session, the students observed each step in the process of creating a handcrafted kitchen knife—from heating the steel, forging and shaping the blade, to quenching, grinding, and finishing. Our craftsmen also shared stories about the heritage of Đa Sỹ, a village with more than 600 years of blacksmithing tradition.

The students watched attentively, asked insightful questions, and showed great excitement as they learned how skill, patience, and precision come together to create a high-quality knife. After the demonstration, they returned to school to write a reflection about what they learned from this unique cultural and technical experience.

We are grateful for the opportunity to welcome the teachers and students of Dwight Hanoi, and we hope this field trip inspired them as much as their curiosity inspired us.
Đa Sỹ looks forward to welcoming more young explorers to discover the beauty of Vietnamese craftsmanship.
